Because this position is defined as 50% Microsoft Network Engineer and 50% technical support to our customers. You care as much about helping people as you enjoy the thrill of solving a technical puzzle. You will be the network administrator for a 24x7 production server environment including web servers, DNS servers, database servers, domain controller, network hardware, firewalls, and back-up tape drive. When that’s not keeping you busy, you’ll be delivering quality customer service to external customers involving our GoECart product. They don’t call you Goldenboy/girl for nothing! For those of you who prefer more ‘formal’ job descriptions, here’s the fine print….
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Microsoft Network Engineer is responsible for the design, development and refinement of all network systems infrastructure and serves as one of the highest levels of escalation for network and security issues.
- Manage all (100 enterprise-level) servers, including e-mail, file, print, and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software.
- Manage security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems.
- Manage all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, printers, and UPSs.
- Perform automated system backups and recovery of all systems and maintain accurate records of all backup activities according to current standard procedures.
- Automate systems monitoring tasks using standard monitoring tools
- Perform installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
- Web site administration (load balancing, traffic monitoring and sizing)
- Administer all equipment, hardware and software upgrades and routine maintenance and maintain proper documentation.
- Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions and access rights.
- Manager corporate telecommunications system.
- Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
- Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for network resource administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery.
- Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
The Microsoft Network Engineer will be supporting our customers (and their use of our product) for 50% of their shift.
- Troubleshoot corporate customers Tier 1 through Tier 4 problems via telephone, written correspondence, or electronic services identified within GoECart’s SaaS environment
- Provide reliable resolution of critical and high impact problems for GoECart’s corporate customers within the designated SLA parameters
- Resolve mission critical or politically sensitive customer issues and maintain ownership of issues until resolved completely.
- Provide professional support by maintaining high standards of courtesy, listening skills, rapport building skills, client-expectation management, and handling difficult situations.

- Document problem solutions utilizing the corporate CRM system and contribute to the company knowledgebase.
Oh, it would be best if you know how to prioritize tasks in an environment with goals that sometimes conflict (but you already know this).
While you do have a life, all of us participate in therotating "on-call" schedule.
Essential Skills, Experience & Education
- 3 - 5 (or 6 or 7) years network and/or system administration experience
- Expertise with Microsoft products/operating systems: Windows Server 2000/2003, IIS 6.0, SQL Server 2000/2005, Active Directory, DNS Services and Server Clustering
- Additional product expertise in Cisco equipment, Veritas Backup Exec 10d (or higher), Symantec Anti-virus, and NetTracker
- Experience with developing intrusion detection, prevention and firewall policies
- Familiarity with ASP, ASP.NET, XML, HTML, XSL, VB, Javascript
- Must have outstanding customer service talents and excellent written and oral communication skill sets.
- Must exhibit equanimity and poise under the pressure of solving real-time issues. Logical problem-solving aptitude with a high level of accuracy and detail including the ability to multi-task under pressure.
- Must have an outstanding attendance record, be a team player, self-motivated, committed, hard working, and flexible.
- Availability to work off-hours in our 24/7 environment when necessary.
- BS degree in Computer Science or related field
- Microsoft System Administration, Networking or Web Development certifications are a plus (see below)
Still reading? Outstanding! We are located in Connecticut (about an hour by train from The Big Apple). So, when you do take a breather, you can explore the city, see that Broadway show, eat in every possible ethnic restaurant imaginable, etc. Or if you’re a country boy/girl, you can head north to western MA, VT, etc.

Even though you know you’re a technical guru, since we were raised in Missouri, it would be helpful if you have one or more of the certifications below and have strong familiarity with at least one scripting language (e.g., Python).
