Google's New Image Ad Program
Google annouced a new program in which its customers will be allowed to place
images and banner ads on sites participating in its Adsense program. The banner
ads will be placed according to the relevancy of a web page. Google’s new
Image Ad program (currently in Beta Version) will allow image display in four
differnet sizes & shapes & will be limited to images of 50 KB in size.
Google will also place a ‘user bar’ at the bottom of the image to highight
the link to the advertiser.
Although Google has not allowed Image Ads in its home page, this program
reflects a shift in Google’s policy. The search super giant has always
promoted text based advertising and has refrained from any image based
advertising till date.

PayPal Web Services launched
Newly released PayPal Web Services will help online merchants in effective
management of transactions involving PayPal. PayPal has released the beta
version of three API ‘s namely Transaction Search, Get TransactionDetails and
Refund transaction. These APIs can be used for supporting PayPal transaction or
extract certain type of information. PayPal will also lauch its fourth API named
as MassPay that can transfer funds to many persons.

“Bill me later” solution by I4 Commerce
Credit card payment is the most popular method for making online payments. For
online shoppers the solution by I4 Commerce is a boon, as they can purchase
online and pay later in installments. The implementation of this new payment
option is currently being evaluated by leading e-retailers.
An online shopper who selects the “Bill me later” option can either pay the
entire amount within 30 days or in installments. Nonetheless, there are security
issues too, as the online customer needs to provide the last four digits of
his/her social security number.

Amazon launches A9 – a search with a ‘big’ difference
A9 is currently under beta testing, and fetching results from partner sites
Google.com, Alexa.com, apart from its own database. It displays the sought
‘search results’, ‘reviews of different books sold on Amazon.com’ and
the ‘users’ history’
A9 highly distinguishing features:
- Users’ history with regard to your searched item can be accessed from
anywhere at anytime as it is stored in A9's search database
- Mouse over on a "Site Info" link shows vital site data with
regard to related links, competitor/similar sites, user rankings etc.
- Offers the surfer’s search engine history which can be disabled by the
user.
A9 is also in the process of addressing privacy issues, in
order to avoid legal battles similar to Google’s Gmail.

Google’s Gmail is an application, which will include ads as part of an email
Google is soon to enter free e-mail service providers market with its email
services called “G-mail”. But this email service is sure to be different
from the other service providers, as Google has come up with a new concept of
“Contextual Advertising”.
Google will showcase advertisements of the competitor products in the email. The

Small businesses earn higher profits by selling online: ACNielsen Study
A survey conducted by ACNielsen and commissioned by eBay, highlights experiences
of small businesses that have explored the possibilities of selling online. The
findings reveal that a majority of the respondents felt that going online has
made their business more profitable.
The sample included 400 small businesses employing less than 100 people. Again,
a majority of them share a positive outlook for the year ahead, while expecting
a healthy growth in revenue and customer base in the year 2004.

Does your email campaign comply with the CAN-SPAM Act?
Email marketing is one of the prime channels of marketing on the Internet.
"Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act of
2003" (CAN-SPAM Act) came into force from 1st January 2004. The CANSPAM act
has widespread implication on how an online business communicates with its
customers. It imposes legal penalties against transmitting unsolicited
