Recently, GoECart was asked to participate in Frost & Sullivan Market Insight/Buyers’ Guide on Ecommerce Platforms for SMBs. That guide will be published soon, and we’ll be sure to let you know when it’s available. Find out more about Frost & Sullivan here.
Although we’re always on the lookout for new Ecommerce trends that will impact our customers and suggest new enhancements for our GoECart 360 end-to-end commerce solution for multi-channel retailers, participating in the primary research for the guide did crystallize our thoughts on some matters.
Particular, what are the top four trends in the eCommerce market that impact SMBs? Here‘s a brief overview of what we came up with:
- The acceleration of mobile commerce. Shoppers are using different types of mobile devices in varying manners. Smartphones are more widely used but tablets drive twice the number of transactions. A huge trend we are seeing is mobile optimization of ecommerce site for use on various devices.
- Shoppers expect social networking features on their favorite sites. A recent study from Shopify showed Facebook dominates as a source of social traffic and sales. An average of 85% of all orders from social media comes from Facebook. Community style site Polyvore generates the highest average order value ahead of Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter — as does Instagram! This is especially impressive considering the only clickable links in Instagram are those in profile bios. With over 175m monthly users, an increasing share of retail site traffic is driven by Pinterest referrals.
- Leveraging online marketplaces and omni-channel selling to drive sales. Native integration with leading marketplaces like Amazon and EBay is going to be a core requirement for Ecommerce platforms. Progressive merchants want to be omni-channel present and they want the process to be seamless.
- Big data is of paramount importance in e-commerce and online marketing. Big data enables businesses to gather insights about their customers through monitoring their purchasing habits and decisions. Big data is also very beneficial for creating sales forecasts. E-commerce businesses must pay attention to not only sales, but also website performance such as shopping cart conversion ratios, and customer behaviors on the site) to determine what they need to improve in the future.
